Community Organizer position with the Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project

The Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project (EPOP) is seeking qualified candidates to consider a career as a community organizer working in Philadelphia. EPOP is a faith based and neighborhood institutional organization dedicated to developing leaders and building power to create a vision of justice for all the people of Philadelphia. In its 14 year history, EPOP has successfully addressed issues of public education, housing, immigration, community reinvestment, safety and city services.

Primary responsibilities:

• Identify and develop leaders through an organizing model based on principles of relationships, power and self-interest organizing in three to five member institutions.
• Conduct one to one visits and leadership training.
• Issue research and teaching leaders to do research.
• Develop organizing strategy around issues with leaders.
• Work with the faith community to build power for social justice.

Requirements:

The candidate for a community organizing position with EPOP should have life experiences enabling her/him to work with diverse groups of people. A college degree
is preferred but may be waived in light of other work/learning experiences.

• Ability to teach and challenge people and learn from leaders and other staff.
• Strong analytical and writing skills.
• A passion for faith, justice and building community.
• An understanding and willingness to learn about politics and the community.
• Bilingual candidates preferred, women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
