Oxfam International Youth Partnerships 2007-2010

Background

Oxfam International Youth Partnerships is a global network of young people working with their communities to create positive, equitable and sustainable change. If you are working with your community to create a positive future then you can apply to be a part of the Oxfam International Youth Partnerships. Between 2007 and 2010 you will have opportunities to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding and to talk and share with other young people. You will be able to use these opportunities to support your work with your community. Your participation in OIYP will start in April 2007. If selected, you must be available to attend an event in October 2007 in Sydney, Australia. DEADLINE: January 31st.

Selection Crieria

Eligibility
• Age: 18-25 at 1 October 2007
• Speak English or Spanish
• Not previously a participant with OIYP (an ‘action partner’)
• Available to attend an 8 day event in October 2007 in Sydney, Australia

Diversity Criteria
• 50/50 males and females from a diversity of communities and countries.

Geographic Search Technician (NJ)

Geographic Search Technician (NJ) : For Charles Jones Inc., a ChoicePoint Inct. company we are seeking a dynamic individual who is responsible for conducting manual Flood and/or Tideland searches using FEMA, tax and tideland maps and company databases. Does manual flood searches by comparing either online or hard copy maps. Uses proprietary database to confirm property identification data given by customers. Contacts customers regarding searches as needed. Contacts municipalities regarding searches as needed. Records changes/updates within local department records as indicated. Provides Customer Service support as needed often handling more complex or technical inquires. Serves as a product specific point of contact for incoming inquires. Conducts Life of Loan (LOL) analysis to initiate notifications/updates as maps change.

Secondary Functions: Updates Letter of Map Changes (LOMC) database to show FEMA determinations and associated flood map changes.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelors in Geo. Related field or equivalent functional experience

Experience & Training:
1+ years working in Geography field or related Educational project work

Specific Skills:
Working knowledge of GIS software
MS Office, internet, email
Customer focused with good communication skills
Highly detail oriented
Advanced analytical and reasoning skills

Other:
Team player
Able to mentor/train other staff
Adaptable, reliable and able to work independently with limited supervision

Land Trust Assistant: Passaic River Coalition, the watershed association for the Passaic River and its basin is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student for a ten-week summer internship at its office in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, beginning in late May or early June. There will be a stipend of $2,500.



Qualifications

  • A qualifying candidate should have excellent organizational skills with good research orientation. Perform good writing skills and strong environmental sensitivity.
  • Be comfortable with some physically taxing activity, such as hiking, posting properties and operating in a range of geographic areas from rural to urban

  • Some real estate experience, interest and some knowledge of sustainability, photography would be a plus.

Internship Details

Intern will participate in meetings with affiliated groups, make site visits to acquired lands (post signs, check on conditions), research land trust standards and prepare presentation to the Board. Finally you help manage hikes and related activities for the public.

NJ Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Assistant: Passaic River Coalition, the watershed association for the Passaic River and its basin is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student for a ten-week summer internship at its office in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, beginning in late May or early June. There will be a stipend of $2,500.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate/graduate student in geography, environmental sciences, information technology or any other related field.
  • Completion of Intermediate GIS concepts and ArcGIS 8 or equivalent familiarity with Environmental Geomatics.
  • Program requires college credit.

Passaic River Coalition

Keep PA Beautiful Summer 2007 Internships



The Keep PA Beautiful internship program aims to beautify Pennsylvania's neighborhoods and encourage individual stewardship by pairing college interns with communities to implement art & greening projects. The 11-week internship will place 8 to 12 interns at different sites across Pennsylvania.



Qualifications
  • Have a GPA of at least a 2.67 on a 4.0 grading scale.
  • Be a college sophomore, junior, senior, or master's candidate.
  • Commit to a 4- day training program in Philadelphia from May 29th to June 1st.
  • Commit to working 11-weeks. Internship runs from May 29th to August 10th.

Internship Details
  • 24- 36 internships will be awarded.
  • A 2,000 scholarship will be given to interns to cover summer expenses.
  • The program will assist interns in finding housing within their select areas.
